Full Definition
Google replaced the older FID (First Input Delay) metric with INP in March 2024 because INP measures responsiveness throughout the entire page visit, not just the first click. A good INP score is under 200 milliseconds. On dealership sites, heavy JavaScript from inventory management systems, chat tools, and payment calculators is the primary driver of poor INP scores because these scripts compete for the browser's main thread when a visitor taps a button.
Why It Matters for Your Dealership
A sluggish page that freezes for half a second when a buyer tries to schedule a test drive creates a perception of poor quality. Google now uses this as a ranking signal. Slow interactive pages rank below competitors who have invested in front-end performance.
